Caramelized WHAT......... Caramelized Onion Burgers
You may think no bun burgers may be drab but who needs buns when you have so much flavour

Ingredients
FOR THE CARAMELIZED ONIONS
4 large onions
2 tbsp salted butter
2 tbsp brown sugar 1 tsp garlic salt
Salt & garlic to taste
FOR THE BURGER PATTIES
1 tbsp garlic salt
1 tsp chili flakes
1 tsp paprika
500g good-quality beef mince
1 egg
1 tbsp olive oil
Half caramelized onion mixture (cooked)
FOR THE BURGERS
1 packet diced bacon
4 thick slices of red Leicester cheese
Left over caramelized onions
Mixed lettuce
Instructions
FOR THE CARAMELIZED ONIONS
1. Cut onions into thin slices
2. Place all ingredients into a frying pan on a medium heat
3. Cook until golden brown about 8-10mins
4. Separate half the onions, put one half to the side to use as a garnish
FOR THE BURGER PATTIES
1. Preheat oven to 180 °C
2. Dice half the caramelized onion mixture up and place all ingredients into a bowl
3. Mix all ingredients well together
4. Roll patties mixture into 4 separate round balls
5. Place burger patties in oven – 6 minutes each side
FOR THE BURGERS
1. Cook bacon on medium heat for about 5-10 mins
2. 1 minute before burgers are ready place a slice of cheese on each one
3. Once the cheese has melted, take out the oven and ensemble each burger equally – caramelized onions, bacon bits and top off with a handful of lettuce
